Adison Joye Barton

Adison Joye Barton was born on March 19 at 4:39 p.m. She was 20 inches long and weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces - I'm glad they don't know the weight until after they come out. I would have been terrified out of my mind to try and push a baby out that size!
That morning at 6:00 Jack and I headed to the Timpanogos Hospital for our planned induction. My blood pressure had been a little high at my doctor's visit the day before. Between that and her being almost a week overdue, the doctor decided it would be okay to induce labor.

She had some bruises on her head because she had her face up instead of down. I didn't know there was a "right" way for their face to be. That made pushing take a little longer (two hours) but I was only in labor for ten hours, which was far better than I ever expected.

The first couple of days home from the hospital my mom came down to Ephraim. It was definitely a blessing to have someone there to let us have a few extra hours of sleep. Plus, Grandma Jen loved spending time with her first grandchild.

Spring break was the week after she came, so we spent some time up north with family. It was so nice to have all of the help and Adi loved the attention. We are so happy to have her in our family and we can't wait to spend our lives together watching her grow up.

37 Weeks and the Wilderness Couch

First off, Wednesday we hit the 37 week mark! That means baby Adison is officially full term :) Jack and I are both grateful that we've had such a smooth pregnancy. I'll admit, there are lots of icky parts to pregnancy, but everything has gone perfectly. Things couldn't be going better right now.

I had Jack take some pictures of me this morning. Boy, do I sure look different in pictures than just staring down at my belly! It looks like I took a basketball and shoved it under my shirt. I assure you that isn't the case. I can't imagine I'll get much bigger before this is over, but you never know. I've never done this before so it's all fair game.

In other news, my parents have been doing some serious remodeling. In light of this event, we were given the Wilderness couch.

It may not be the prettiest couch in the world. And for a normal person, it's not the comfiest couch either. But to a pregnant girl, it's probably the most comfortable place for me in the whole apartment. I have never loved a couch more in my life.

Parable of the Broken Glass

Maybe not so much a parable, but a story that has taught me a weird lesson since Jack and I have been married. At our wedding, we got a set of four glasses that I just loved. They looked really nice, so I hoped to take good care of them forever. Within the first couple months, I dropped one on the kitchen floor and it shattered into a hundred little pieces. I felt so awful, but of course it wasn't really a big deal. Eventually I got over it.
A little while later, I knocked another one off the kitchen table and it shattered on the floor just like the first one. Once again, I felt awful. My favorite glasses and I had broken half of them by being clumsy and careless. What kind of wife am I to be breaking everything we own?
A couple days ago I had one sitting on the floor next to the couch. My phone fell off the arm of the couch and instead of hearing the thud of it hitting the ground, I heard the glass breaking. At that moment, I realized what wimpy glasses they were. Sure, I love them. But if my phone (which weighs virtually nothing) could break one, anything could break them.
So the story I learned here is sometimes when things go wrong, it's not as much your fault as you think. Sometimes you just have a wimpy glass.

34 Weeks and Counting

As of today, I am 34 weeks along and super excited for our baby girl to come. This pregnancy has definitely been an adventure, and we have been very blessed to have everything go so well. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Her nick-name while she's been growing has been "Helga". Although we've picked out the name Adison for her, I frequently find myself calling her Helga anyway. Not to worry, that would never end up being her real name.

This ultrasound picture is from 19 weeks (which was fifteen weeks ago!). I thought this was the most adorable picture of the bunch. I couldn't get over how cute her little leg is (and her little bum up in the air). Ultrasounds are one of my absolute favorite parts of being pregnant. I love seeing all the pictures, and I secretly like the goop they put all over my gargantuan belly.

This picture was taken around 28 weeks (right before Christmas). Needless to say, in the past six weeks I have grown a lot.  My mom tells me I look like I swallowed a basketball. Girls in my ward are expecting me to pop any time now, even though I have six weeks left. We'll have to be patient and see when she decides to show up!
